Bruknahm Project

Originally born in Paris, France, Sebastian “SibaGiba” Bardin is now a Brüknahm aka Brooklyn resident. Sebastian has played the drums for 15 years, attending LaGuardia High School for the Arts (the “Fame” school) and studying with Jazz great Andrew Cyrille.

In 1993, he co-wrote the book “Freestyle”; (Massot/Millet Editions-France 1993) with the late Desdemone Bardin (his mother), an ensemble of 80 interviews of MC’s, Graff artists, Breakdancers, and DJ’s from the US and around the globe.

This collaboration with Mr. Wilson began when the two students attended SUNY Purchase College for music composition (1992-96). SibaGiba brings his recording experience to Brüknahm, having produced such artists as Maceo Parker, Lester Bowie, Daddy-0 (Stetsasonic), Sadat X (Brand Nubian), Freestyle Fellowship, Vinia Mojica (De La Soul, Tribe, Mos Def), Shurikn’ (IAM-France), Main Concept (Germany) and others. The breakthrough came in 1999 when he produced “Painkillers” on the Everlast (ex-House of Pain) “Whitey Ford Sings The Blues” triple platinum and Grammy nominated LP. Since then, Sebastian established his own label, Overtime Records and is also an MC in the group Get Open.

“The Brüknahm Project has enabled me to unite all of the music in my life.” -SB

Saundi Wilson, the son of a prolific drummer Phillip Wilson (Art Ensemble of Chicago, Butterfield Blues Band), was born and raised in Brüknahm. Saundi started playing the guitar at age five, but by his sophomore year at Brooklyn Technical High School he had given it up for the "wheels of steel". He went on to deejay over 200 shows for his rap group (System X), but, more importantly, got his first taste of music production. In 1992, Saundi was accepted to the music program at S.U.N.Y. Purchase where he would learn to read, write, compose, analyze music. The free-for-all environment at Purchase allowed the self diagnosed "eclectomaniac" to spread his wings. He composed jazz, hip-hop and everything else in between, before and after. His palette was further enriched when his music led him to faraway places like Munich (Hip Hop Massiv Festival), Rome (NYU New Music and Dance Ensemble) and Prague (Prague Academy of Music). Saundi was adorned with numerous awards and accolades, including the Thayer Fellowship (given to one artist in NY State per year) and President’s Award . In 1996, he entered the masters program at NYU for film scoring where he was awarded Best Original Score at the 1997 NYU Film Festival. Since then, he has written music for A&E, CBS, ABC, and Disney as well as numerous short films. In 2002, Saundi scored his first feature, “Manito”, which garnered honors at the Sundance, Avignon, and South by Southwest film festivals. It will be released on DVD by Film Movement and will play in theaters in the summer of 2003 (NY, LA, Chicago).
